Whale Safari Guides

Birds seen today: Atlantic puffin, northern gannet, cormorant, european shag, kittiwake, northern fulmar, eider duck, manx shearwater, black guillemot

09:00 - Our whale watching tour started with some splash, the waves were not giving in but that didn't stop from exiting the harbour. We sailed to Engey in order to see some cool puffins and after that we headed to the middle of the bay. Well, not really the middle as the wind was coming from the north, we searched for some closure from the mountains near Hvalfjoður. While we were there the wind was weaker and the waves not so strong. We sailed south after that but nothing ever popped up. There were a few birds flying around, but no cetaceans unfortunately. We did a 90 degree turn towards Reykjavík to go back to the safety of the harbour. We offered complimentary tickets to our passengers for them to have another go on a Classic tour.

12:00 - Still with a bit of inclement weather, we sailed to another area in order to avenge the morning tour. After a quick stop by Akurey to see the mighty puffin, we went south and close to the shore in order to try our luck. It was still a bit bumpy on the way out, and the wind wasn't going to give up that easily but we kept on trying to find animals for our passengers to enjoy. We did see a few northern gannets resting on the surface but they didn't want to show us where the whales were. So, after a sail in the waves we did a 180 degree turn back to the harbour and still close to shore. There was a flock of birds feeding on something but they were not in the company of a whale or a dolphin. Oh well, the wind was picking up and we still had to find the harbour, but before coming back we stopped by Engey to try to see more puffins but not even them were at home. We offered complimentary tickets to our passegers for them to have another shot on the Classic tour.
