09:00 - On this gloomy morning, we had to tackle a rather large swell, but all bundled up, we were determined to spot cetaceans. Though we had to brave some challenging spotting conditions, and a wild ride, we were rewarded with a very calm, restful humpback whale, floating near the surface. We got a nice close look at this individual, but as it was going for rather long dives, we decided to search a bit further to see if there may be any more whales around. We took our time looking through an area with a lot of young seagulls flying above, and took a big loop, eventually finding another blow, another humpback whale. Not just any humpback whale, it was Niela, a well-known and much loved whale in this bay! Always a treat to see her! We spent a good long while with her, admiring her majestic fluke dives util it was time to start making our way back towards the harbour. Towards the very end of our way back, just near Akurey, we spotted yet another blow, the third humpback of the tour! What a lucky, close sighting! We recognized this whale as well, we have started affectionately referring to this individual as Harbour Master, since their claim to fame is, they swam into Reykjavík harbour on August 20th. Very nice to see this whale thriving and hanging out so close to shore! What a lovely morning!
