Species seen today: harbour porpoise, humpback whale

Good conditions this morning with calm seas and some sunshine, but the wind picking up in the afternoon. In the morning we sighted harbour porpoises on our way out of Faxafloi Bay but they quickly disappeared so we continued our search. Soon we spotted the blows of humpback whales and realised there were two whales, one much larger than the other. These whales were diving for several minutes at a time, and covering some distance under the water. They were surfacing simultaniously and so close touching each others flippers. We later found another humpback that was taking regular but short dives giving us some fabulous views of its fluke. In the afternoon we went out on 2 boats and stuck together for the majority of the tour. We first found a small pod of 5/6 white-beaked dolphins. We were able to see stay for a while with them but they started to get a bit elusive so continued on. Not long after, we found a humpback whale bubble feeding. A few times it came right next to our boats and blew bubbles up from underneath. On our way back to the harbour, we spotted another 2 humpbacks swimming as a pair. These whales were also feeding and we saw one lunge feed too! Our reluctant ride back to the harbour was still filled with life though as we saw another pod of white-beaked dolphins jumping and another humpback!
