Whale Diary

10:00 - This morning was a true adventure, we sailed out and were quickly met by some swell. We were on our way to the whale fjord as this is where we have had the most luck recently. Just at the entrance to the fjord we spotted a minke whale, this individual was quite elusive so we quickly moved on. We then spotted a blow and made our way over for that - 'twas a humpback whale! This humpback went for a dive and while we were waiting we spotted 3 harbour porpoises. in this moment we were hit by a rain shower which soaked us, but keeping spirits up we We went back to finding the humpback, we spotted it at our 11 and headed over when it appeared directly next to the boat! This was a breathtaking moment for everyone on board including captain and guide! It then appeared on our right hand side a few times still very close. We got a few good luck at this humpback whale, which would go for deep dives with a really high fluke. Again - gorgeous! We stayed here as long as we could, eventually having to head back home. On our way back is where we faced the second part of our adventure. The swell and wind had picked up, but with a cheerful mood we made it through facing the waves and even a hail storm!
