Species seen today: humpback whale, white-beaked dolphin

Lovely weather conditions today, calm water and just a light breeze. Maybe a few spots of rain but warm temperatures, especially when the sun came out. The wildlife in Faxafloi Bay treated us to some extra special displays today. Our morning trip were lucky to enjoy the spectacular sight of three humpback whales swimming close to and around our boat. The largest even swam underneath the vessel with incredible care and precision. We were able to film some amazing underwater footage. In the afternoon we enjoyed watching a humpback whale casually feeding in the Bay, showing us its pectoral fin on occasion and making frequent dives with great views for us of his fluke. After leaving that whale to it, we spotted a large group of gulls and terns feeding, and then saw the fins of white-beaked dolphins. At least four individuals cruised around in the vicinity of our boat. Viewing conditions were amazing with calm grey water sparkling in the muted sunshine, and the dark black outline of the Reykjanes peninsula beyond. We approached another whale and realised there were two whales, one much larger than the other. Just as we were running out of time, both whales began breaching. We watched them breach multiple times. Spectacular!
