Species seen today: humpback whale, Minke whale, harbour porpoise

The weather conditions were not favourable this morning and we had to cancel our whale watching trips but we were still able to go and see the fabulous Atlantic puffins! The wind had calmed by the afternoon so our boats went out in to the Bay and saw some fantastic wildlife. We had lots of bird action with large groups of Arctic terns diving near to a humpback whale. There was clearly lots of great food under the surface. We watched as the whale turned on its side and fed along the surface. Elsewhere in the Bay we saw a humpback breaching and slapping its pectoral fin on the water surface. We were treated to a few glimpses of harbour porpoises and we also sighted a Minke whale. We believe there were at least five humpback whales in the Bay today plus the Minkes, so food must be plentiful!
