Whale Diary

09:00 - We set sail on a beautiful sunny day, with just a touch of wind and some decent swell to keep things interesting. Our whale search began with a shy minke whale, playing a game of hide-and-seek—though it seems the minke forgot to let us win! We only managed to catch a couple of glimpses before it slipped away into the waves. Undeterred, we carried on and found another minke, but it must’ve taken notes from its friend because it wasn’t exactly in the mood for a meet-and-greet either. Guess you could say it was “whaley” shy! Then, things took a turn for the better—we spotted not one, not two, but three humpback whales! They were doing their usual deep dives, staying down for 10-15 minutes at a time. Just when we thought we were running out of time, one of the humpbacks decided to show off its magnificent fluke, giving us all that picture-perfect moment we were waiting for. They say time flies when you're having fun, and we had a “whale of a time” out there.

10:00 - The weather was nice, it wasn´t cold and the sun peaked through the clouds when we headed out the harbor. The sea was a little choppy. As we headed out it took us not long before we saw 1 minke whale. He quickly disappeared though and so we went on to find some more whales. And we did, we found another minke that was showing of 3 times, which is unusual but we were happy about it. After that we found 1 humpback whale which was fluking quite nice. Then we saw another blow and followed this one. Since we ran out of time we could only watch it one time and then had to head back.

12:00 - The weather took a bit of a turn this afternoon—overcast skies, a bit more wind, but we weren’t about to let that stop us from a whale of a time! 🌊 We sailed out and after a short search, we struck gold (or blubber?) with a humpback whale that was lunge feeding like a pro. It even threw in some pectoral slaps, like it was waving to say, "Look at me!" (Or maybe it was just showing off its whale-arms day workout). Not long after, we spotted another blow in the distance. As we got closer, we were treated to yet another lunge feed, like the humpbacks were lining up for their lunch buffet. And just when we thought the show couldn’t get better—BOOM! A surprise breach right in front of us! This whale was clearly auditioning for “Whale’s Got Talent.” The excitement on board was through the roof—or should I say through the splash zone.
