Species seen today: Humpback Whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins.

10:00 - The weather is always a bit more unpredictable as we get closer to winter, snow has also started to be seen on top on the mountains, a light dusting from the evening before. The weather forecast looked good for today so we were off. First we tried the north but not much was seen there, we saw some birds in the binoculars further to the south and so thats where we turned. Soon another whale watching boat let us know of a pair of humpback whales, once arriving it was indeed are friends Mariupol and Neila, two we know very well from this and last summer. They were very relaxed, just chilling at the surface and fluking (showing their tails) a couple of times. In the distance we spotted a large pod of 10-12 white-beaked dolphins that were on a mission. Obviously feeding, chasing their fast lunch with speed and precision. As we were about to leave them a minke whale surfaced just 10m away and soon we were in the middle of a minke whale feeding frenzy. At least 7-9 minke whales lunge feeding all around us. Sometimes you could even see the pink belly of them. The morning was a slow start but an incredible finish with a bay full of life.

14:00 - We had such a great morning that we were super excited to head out again. As we were heading out the wind was picking up alot more than expected and fast too, eventually we had a very choppy, messy sea. We were able to get to the two humpback whales (Mariupol and Neila) and unexpectedly had them surfacing within 10m from our vessel. We were trying to give them space all the while trying to keep the boat upwind to minimise rocking and splashes but time and time again the whales unexpectedly surfaced close by. In the end the wind was picking up too much so we decided to head home a little early. Everyone was happy as with the splashes hitting the boat and passengers it was getting cold. Brrrrr. They still had a lot of fun.
