Whale Diary

10:00 - This morning, after stopping by Engey to see some of the adorable puffins, we sailed back to Hvalfjörður in search of the cetaceans. We didn't have to go too far into the fjord this time, as we found a humpback whale nearby the aluminium factory. It was being very relaxed and was taking its time between surfacing. It was still wonderful to watch as the whale wasn't swimming very fast and was always swimming in a similar direction so was easy to follow. We were able to see a really beautiful fluke dive, and recognised the whale from our previous trips to the fjord in the last few days. We were also treated to a couple of close encounters when the whale surfaced right next to us! An amazing time at sea!

14:00 - This afternoon, we headed out into Hvalfjörður, where we spotted the whale during the morning. .After about half an hour of sailing we heard that a humpback whale was around!. It was in no rush, surfacing slowly and giving us plenty of chances to observe it. The whale swam at a gentle pace, following a steady course, which made it easy for us to stay alongside. To make the encounter even more special, the whale surfaced right next to us a couple of times—an incredible moment! On the way back, we made a stop at Engey to visit some very cute puffins, which was the perfect way to end a fantastic afternoon at sea!
