Species seen today: humpback whale, white-beaked dolphin, minke whale, harbour porpoise

Beautiful weather conditions once again within Faxafloi as the suns strength warmed the skin on the harbourside which was soon cooled with the breeze when motoring. All four common species were seen during the day but in slightly fewer numbers to the weekends tours. Harbour porpoises were scattered throughout the bay, often in small groups on both tours, rolling their backs quickly and exposing the distinctive triangular dorsal fin. A few minkes were observed in the morning, cruising silently by as we waited for a humpback whale to resurface after performing deep dives. The minke was greatly apprecaited by all on board who seemed to be impressed with its calm yet graceful demeanour. The humpback was present on both the morning and afternoon tours, easily watchable with long waiting periods between dives. Lastly, dolphins in the afternoon numbered around 8 individuals in the pod and at first, appeared to be disinterested in our presence. Once we decided to slowly move on, they approached to investigate and some individuals took to the sky, acrobatically leaping from the water whilst twisting their bodies to create a large splash.
