10:00 - The sea was calm today and apparently full of dolphins. Although our first, brief encounter was with a fast harbour porpoise that quickly disappeared out of sight, the highlight of the day was a sighting with a pod of white-beaked dolphins. The dolphins were curious about us, playing in our waves and around the bow and swimming underneath the boat. The pod consisted of a few younger dolphins accompanied by their mothers, and at some point they became particularly playful - jumping high out of the water and creating big splashes. Our other RIB reported a blow in the middle of the bay, but the whale that made it dove for a long time and we couldn't find it again.

14:00 - The bay reminded us of a summer´s day with almost no wind and bright sunshine (the only thing to prove winter is coming was the cold, cold air). There were white-beaked dolphins all over the bay and we got a very close-up encounter with a few of them. They came to inspect our boat, swim under us and sometimes surfaced within touching distance. We then moved on to search for minke whales, and we found a few individuals. They came up regularly, and at the end we could get quite close to one of them! Before heading back to Reykjavík, we still had some time to say goodbye to the dolphins and spent another nice moment with them.
