Whale Diary

10:00 - One of the most amazing tours of this year. Altogether, over 15 minke whales, 10 humpback whales and 40 white beaked dolphins, feeding together in the same zone ! In this large area, we managed to have several pairs of humpbacks, some logging, some feeding, and one mother-calf pair ! This specific pair had its younger individual coming centimeters close to our boat, looking at us, whilst the bigger older female kept around us, Throughout the tour, dolphins jumped out and feed with bigger whales, the birdlife kept frenzying allover. Little words can be used to describe the amount of great sightings seen today.

14:00 - Same story again. The best sightings we could possibly get, with 10 humpback whales, most of them paired up, and once again our trusted mother-calf pair, with the younger whale rolling and tail slapping all the time. With also over 10 minke whales spotted and 3 pods of around 30 dolphins, it was once again, one of the best tours we've had in a while !

12:00 -An unforgettable tour. Started straight with Akurey island to observe the cute puffins. After discovering the interesting stories that they bring with them we left them to search for something bigger. On our way towards the open waters we spotted a pot of 3 white beaked dolphins that were cruising elegantly close to us. Not long after we found our first blow. A big humpback whale that soon we understood that was sleeping. We respectfully left and peacefully continue its way. Not long after we found not one but two minke whales that they were more curious than what we were expecting. Some big spaces got our eyes and we sailed fast to see what made them. A playful humpback  whale performed an amazing show! Rolling, flipper slapping even two full breaches and lobtailing for long let us speechless. Definitely a day that we will never forget.

16:00 -We got dressed and went straight to Akurey island to say hello to the thousands of our little cute friends the puffins. After our nice stop we set course towards the open waters and it didn't take a long until we spotted the fist blows. Incredible moments with a really big mother humpback whale next to her little calf. They both performed amazing moves right next to our boat. Lobtailing and rolling many time in a row letting as speechless even waved to us with some flipper slaps . After this amazing show we went to observe 3 humpback whales that where feeding close by. Many fluke dives next to each other made our tour even better making us start our way back with a big smile and many nice memories.

20:00 - To finish our day, we came out one last time, sure of the quality of this tour. As the sun tried to set over the Icelandic horizon, we saw once again a plethora of whales: over 10 minke whales, 30 white beaked dolphins and 20 humpback whales, all joining in  for the show ! Hardly a minute passed with one individual that something else was happening around us. Tail slaps, jumps, breaches, big whales, small whales, old, young, we had it all. This was a one-of-a-kind tour, to finish our one-of-a-kind day.
