Whale Diary

14:00 - This afternoon we sailed under sunny skies as the swell seemed to calm down we were with high hopes for our adventure. It took us about half an hour of sailing before we sighted our first blow! as we got closer we noticed 2 humpback whales moving slowly in the surface! they were traveling slowly occasionally showing their flukes! Then out of nowhere a minke whale came to say hello! It showed up super close to our boat letting us enjoy a really close look at it! We then left these whales and travelled a bit further where we spotted yet another humpback whale and another curious minke whale! amazing! As time was running out we decided to say goodbye and heading back to the harbour after a great day at sea!

15:00 - With sunshine and a nice breeze, we applied our sunblock and headed out into the bay. We spotted the blow of one minke whale. While we could smell this individuals breath, it was a bit elusive so we continued onward. Out into the bay we then spotted the blows of two humpback whales. These individuals treated us right away to two fabulous fluke dives. When they resurfaced they were very curious and came very close! They even had some rainbows in their blows. It was amazing to see their pectoral fins through the water and see their face right in front of the boat! After multiple close surfaces, there were some splashes in the distance and we went to check them out. We then found two more humpbacks! After a surface sequence we waved our whales goodbye and headed back to port, what an excellent tour.
