Whale Diary

10:00 - Excellent tour to start the day, with a minke whale just out of the harbour! It was incredible to set out like that, the passengers were ecstatic, while the minke was cruising at high speed in circles in the bay. After a while with it, we continued out, and we found 3 humpback whales! Two of them together, and the third one, just a bit away. They were very visible because they spent a lot of time on the surface, and we could tell that one of them was Davy Jones. We headed back with very happy faces.

13:00 - What a wonderful tour! There was another minke whale as soon as we left the marina, not right out of the port but a very short distance away. We enjoyed its company while it cruised up and down the surface at high speed, and eventually we left it alone, and a bit further out, we came across 2 humpback whales. They were a bit sleepy, and took their time between surface appearances, but it was magical. After a while with them, we moved on, and we found another single humpback. This one was very active, slapping and rolling repeatedly. So total humpback count, 3 individuals. In the same area there were some white beaked dolphins, maybe 10, and another minke whale, so total count 2.

15:00 - Incredible tour to end the day! We didn't see the minkes just out of the harbour, but that was not a problem because we found a small pod of harbour porpoises that were very visible! They were swimming all over and surfing the waves, and everybody was ecstatic. We moved on after a while, and we saw 4 humpback whales. They were in pairs, about a mile apart. Both pairs spent much time at the surface, and they were interacting with a group of white beaked dolphins, possibly 10. There were also 2 minke whales cruising around. It was a great success!
