Species seen today: Humpback whale, White-beaked dolphin, Puffins

A soggy day here in Reykjavik but sea conditions out in the Bay were better than expected in the morning. We headed out and found a humpback whale which allowed our guests to get familiar with how the whales look and act whilst surfacing to breath and diving. As we moved on to seek out different animals we observed Arctic terns and other seabirds feeding which was a good indicator that more might be happening beneath the surface! Soon we sighted white-beaked dolphins and another two humpback whales. We headed towards a fourth humpback whale which we could see breaching in the distance. After waiting for the whale to surface, it began slapping it´s pectoral fins on the water, first one, then both! As we needed to leave it treated to us to several breaches. In the early afternoon another humpback was seen feeding quite erratically and it came very close to the boats a couple of times. As the boat was departing they had the incredible sight of the whale lunge-feeding. Weather conditions were rapidly deteriorating and we were forced to cancel our later trips due to the conditions. The forecast is better tomorrow and we will have multiple trips heading out in to the Bay to see more whales and our wonderful Atlantic puffins!
