Whale Diary

11:00 - What a day! The air was crispy cold and clear as we left the harbor in the best of sunshine. Mere minutes after, we came across out first whale. A humpback whale was active just outside of the harbor walls, probably feeding on the massive amounts of small fish we could also see on our fish finder. We spend some time with him and saw him roll and fluke dive, even slapping his great fluke on the water. We let him feed as we went on with our search for more whales around the islands. Passing around Viðey we spotted the blow of a minke whale. It was traveling fast and led us around the bay for quite some time. On our way back we paid another short visit to the humpback that was still busy feeding. It was a great tour and we enjoyed the perfect weather out on the water.

14:00 - The sun shone bright overhead and we had barely any wind on this crispy cold day. We were lucky enough to find no less than 3 humpback whales close to our harbour. The first humpback was by themselves, travelling rather fast in search of food. In the mean time he was treating us to nice fluke dives and even a surprise peduncle throw! The other 2 humpbacks were swimming in pair, staying super close the the coastal wall and were making their way to Skarfabakki harbour. Naturally, we stuck with them for a while (and sneakily threw a few snowballs at our fellow RIB) until time ran out and we had to head back to the harbour.
