Whale Diary

10:00 - Today the North Atlantic presented itself from the rough side. We wet out and had a good ride on the waves. Soon we spotted a small group of around 8 white-beaked dolphins that surfaced close to our boat and stayed with us for a while. We got a good look at these inquisitive guys as they checked us out as well. As we continued our tour we spotted the blows of 2 humpback whales in the distance. We got close to one of them and got a great impression of its massive size. As it went for a longer dive we recognized the markings on its fluke. It was our long known friend Neila! A whale that is know to return to the area since 2021. Happy with our sightings we returned back to Reykjavik.

14:00 - The wind picked up and the waves got quite challenging on our second tour of the day. We worked our way out through and over swell and wind waves but at the end we decided to turn around as it got really rough. On our way toward more calmer waters we spotted a small pod of around 6 white beaked dolphins that got really close to us but disappeared quickly between the high waves. Since we could not spend some time with the animals to get a good look, we offered complementary tickets for our classic whale watching tours to our guests.
