Whale Diary

10:00 - We had a wonderful whale watching tour this morning! After a little puffin visit we headed into the bay and before long we had our first Humpback Whale. It surfaced and fluked many times close to the boat before we decided to look elsewhere. We soon found two other Humpback whales that were swimming and diving together. We stayed with them for a long while so we all got amazing views and great photo oportunities. The Humpbacks even surfaced several times in tandem right in between our two RIB boats, amazing!

12:00 - We had an incredible tour this afternoon!! We started with a quick visit to our puffin friends in Akurey and then moved on deeper into the bay, where not far we found the first Humpback Whale!!! We stayed with it for some time and shortly after we saw two more in the distance, so we left the first one alone and we joined the other whales. They were very active, rolling, slapping and spending lots of time on the surface, which delighted everybody as they could take many photos. As we were admiring these whales we spotted two more, bringing the total count to 5 individuals. It was a great tour.

14:00 - Another incredible tour!! Not 15 minutes from the harbour we came accross the first Humpback Whale! We stayed with it for a while and then we drove slightly North as we could see blows in the distance, and bingo! There we found 2 more humpbacks that were amazing! Super active, slapping, lunge feeding, lots of time on the surface, it was just incredible. Total count 3 individuals. On the way back, we found white beaked dolphins! We could see at least 10 of them, and they swam very near the boat, so everybody was very happy.

16:00 - The conditions were quite nice when we headed out. So we went to the spot we saw the whales the tour before and were greated by 1 Humpback Whale breaching 10 times! After he had his fun he surfaced a few times and then started breaching again! After that he surfaced again a few times, fluked and disappeared. What a beauty ! But it wasn't the only Humpback around, all of a sudden 3 more popped up and we had to make a hard decision. Which one should we follow? We stayed with one of the Humpies and weren't disappointed, because soon there was the second one accompanying it. So we got 2 for 1. ;) We stayed with them as long as we could but we had to go back at one point, because the weather conditions were getting bad. We had 1,5m waves. The good thing was, all the guests had fun on the ride home, they enjoiyed the rough sea and so did we ! What a great tour !!
