Whale Diary

12:00 - After a cancelled morning we were eager to get out to the open ocean. We set sail and after tryin a few of our hotspots we spotted a blow! This blow belonged to a humpback whale! It had a very high fluke and always showed it when going down. There were a lot of kittiwakes and shearwaters that were feeding in this area too. After a few fluke dives we realised that a pod of 6 white beaked dolphins came and joined the feeding party! They actually started to swim around and play with the humpback which started rolling on its side and showing us its pectoral fins! It was an incredible encounter. We stayed for one more beautiful high fluke dive and then started our homeward journey.

15:00 - This afternoon we were eager to sail out again. We had the slow beginning of a sunset so the light at this time is always beautiful! We tried our hotspots and patiently waited, however we had no luck with sightings. We sailed a bit more hoping to find something but it seemed that the cetaceans did not want to be seen. Eventually time ran out and we had to sail back home. It was still a beautiful sail amongst lots of birds, blue skies and a setting sun. On the way back we went past the sun voyager and Harpa. We ended up giving out complimentary tickets so that everyone could try their luck again on a big boat!
