Whale Diary

10:00 - This morning the sun was shining, it was a beautiful day! There was still a bit of swell in the water from the bad weather yesterday however, so this made it a bumpy journey for us on the way out into the bay. Our bumps on the waves were worth it though because once out we quickly found a Minke Whale. It came very close to our boat and stayed just under the surface between breaths so we could see the birght white bands on its fins! While we were waiting to see if we could see it again, a Humpback Whale also surfaced fairly close to us! It came up for multiple breaths close to us but was travelling fast when it went for deeper dives. As it was travelling it was a little hard to predict where it would reappear but we got very lucky and were able to see it many times before we had to head back to the harbour.

12:00 - We started with beautiful sunshine into our tour. The sea conditions were a little rough, but the guests liked the ride on the RIB. As we were looking for whales and dolphins we evantually found a pod of 7 White Beaked Dolphins playing in the waves. Also we saw a few Northern Gannets diving into the water. The ride back was also very pleasent for the guests.

14:00 - Our journey started with beautiful sunny skies as we sailed out to the ocean looking for adventure! The swell going out of the bay made it a bumpy roller coaster ride but our costumers were having a great time surfing the waves! After maybe half an hour we heard from the other boats that we had dolphins in the area! We were able to spot some dorsal fins at the distance, white beaked dolphins! As we got closer the dolphins became more curious and came right next to our boat! We then decided to continue our journey, but not for long because we spotted a Minke Whale after just 5 minutes! Then, out of nowhere we saw a blow! A Humpback Whale resurfaced close to our boats and we enjoyed a beautiful fluke dive before we needed to start our return back to Reykjavik!

16:00 - The sea conditions were better than in the tour before. The sun was shining, but unfortunately we didn't find any whales or dolphins. So we ended our tour with the cute puffins. In the end, we gave out complimentary tickets for our passengers to have another go at seeing whales or dolphins on the larger boats.

20:00 - This evening we sailed out with calm sea and clear skies, perfect for the midnight sun experience. We headed out to the bay visiting a few spots we been lucky for the last few days. Our first sighting was a Minke Whale coming up a few times before it disappeared for a longer dive. As we waited for the whale we also got a few quick glimpses of harbour porpoises close to the boat. Next we found a pod of 6-8 white-beaked dolphins and we were able to follow them for a while. The grand finaly of the tour was a Humpback Whale that we luckily spotted just as we were heading back to Reykjavik.
