Whale Diary

09:00 - Great start of the day! We did not have to travel far to find the great whales! Barely after 15 minutes or so after leaving port, we saw the distinctive blows of humpback whales! After a bit of a search, we found 3 individuals. Two of them seemed to be moving together, one of them looked like it could be Pep. The third one was on its own. We stayed with them for some time, admiring their movements, their size, their blows, until we decided to leave them alone and go out to explore more. Eventually we headed back.

12:00 - The weather was a little rough and we had to look for quite some time, before we found a pod of 5 Harbor Porpoises. They were surfacing quite often and then disappeared. So we kept going and tried to find something else. And after an also quite long time, we spotted a blow in the distance. So we went there, and we had to have a lot of patience with this Humpback Whale, because it was taking 10 minutes dives and only surfaced for one quick breath. In between the waiting time, we saw one Minke Whale coming up very short for a breath. So after waiting for the Humpback one last time, it gifted us with a close up next to our boat ! Then we had to leave for the harbor again. The ride was fun for the guests and although it was cold, they loved their tour and so did we.

13:00 - We had great tours in the morning and early afternoon so we left the marina very hopeful. Again, we did not have to sail for long before we found action! After just a few moments, we found a humpback whale! The wind had gone slightly down as well, so the sighting was very good. The whale was very calm and relaxed, and even though sometimes it took long dives, it was otherwise very regular in its patterns, so it was easy to follow. A couple of times it surfaced quite close to the boat, and she even regaled us with some elegant fluke dives.
