Whale Diary

10:00 - Sailing out this morning in the glorious sunny weather, the sea being glossy and perfect, we knew it was the start of a great day. Pretty quickly, we found 3 minke whales, roaming around quite close to us. We continued sailing out, finding several pods of white beaked dolphins. Most of them were socializing, coming close to our boats, bow riding and jumping out next to us ! We continued onwards to find a humpback whale, fluke diving several times next to us as we calmly waited for it every time, motors turned off to enjoy the peaceful sighting in the sun. Altogether, we saw this one humpback whale, 8 minke whales and 16 white beaked dolphins on the first sunny day in a while !

12:00 - We headed out this morning under sunny skies with calm seas, a great start for the trip. Not long after, we spotted two minke whales hanging around the same area, close enough for everyone to get a good look. Before we knew it, we were right in the middle of a feeding zone—gannets were diving all around us, and four humpback whales showed up! They kept us busy, going from one fluke dive to another, and at one point we even got to see a full breach. Just when we thought the tour was ending a little group of six white-beaked dolphins popped up on our way back, the perfect way to end the tour.

14:00 - Sailing out this afternoon, the wind slightly picked up but the weather kept on giving, and so did the whales! As we headed West, we quickly spotted 6 minke whales in the same area, roaming close enough to us for all to see. This is when we entered the feeding zone, where hundreds of Northern gannets flew over us plunge diving and we managed to spot 4 humpback whales ! Going from fluke dive to fluke dive, whale to whale, we got to see all these individuals from up close, with even some of then pec slapping and tail slapping meters away. As we headed back, we even manage to see a small pod of 6 white beaked dolphins, just to finish our tour on a different note.

15:00 -We set out this morning with sunshine overhead and calm seas, though the wind slowly started to pick up as the trip went on. The first excitement came from a small pod of six white-beaked dolphins that swam alongside us, giving everyone a great view. After that, we spotted two minke whales moving through the same area, nice and close. And then came the real highlight—three humpback whales traveling nearby! They kept us entertained with fluke dives and close passes, and at one point we even saw a breach. With the wind on our backs, we sailed home, the day’s encounters still fresh in our minds.

19:00 - Tonight’s trip was a little bumpy out on the water, but that only added to the fun. We came across three humpback whales, and one of them completely stole the show. It gave us the full performance—showing off both pectoral fins, tail slapping, even a peduncle throw—and then capped it all off with a massive spy hop that left everyone on board wide-eyed and amazed. In the end, we had to leave the whales behind and return to the harbour, all smiles after such a spectacular show.
