Species seen today: Minke whale

Birds seen today: Atlantic puffin, Northern gannet, Northern fulmar, common loon, common guillemot, black guillemot, razorbill, common eider, herring gull, lesser and great black-backed gull, glaucous gull, European shag, black-legged kittiwake, black-headed gull, mallard, red-brested merganser

Tuesday, April 28th, 2026

10:00 - The north Atlantic showed its rough side today. The swell was quite high and so we had a fun ride out onto the bay. We spotted a large flock of Northern gannets plunge diving for food. We stayed in the area for some time to see if any whales were close by but as the wind picked up we headed back closer to the islands. A good idea as it turned out. We spotted a minke whale close to Akurey and were able to spend some time with it until we had to head back to the harbour.

14:00 - The weather was quite windy and the waves a little high, so we stayed closer to the islands outside the harbour. We saw 1 very cool and curious minke whale that was with us throughout the tour every once in a while. He came so close to the boat and was playing hide and seek with us, coming up behind us and then infront of us again. We also headed out a little further and did a fun ride in the high waves. :) It was a very nice tour !
