Whale Diary

10:00 - A lovely blue sky greeted us this morning as we ventured out into Faxaflói bay. Having heard rumors about some playful cetaceans being spotted further out into the bay, we decided to go and investigate. Sure enough, there we found a pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins who darted around the boat and swam underneath us multiple times! They seemed to be quite curious about us, and stayed quite close to us until they decided to move on! We then went to search for more wildlife, and as we were heading back home, a humpback whale made a surprise appearance! And we got there right on time, because a few minutes later, it breached right next to us! Talk about a grand finale. At that point, we were already running late and had to say goodbye to this whale. We returned to land smiling ear to ear after this amazing encounter!

14:00 - Our afternoon started with perfect sea conditions and sunny skies as we sailed out to the bay. We headed to place where we saw the whale this morning and soon enough we heard the news that the other boats spotted a blow! We went there and found a beautiful humpback whale traveling fast! We watched it fluke into the deep and decided to have a look around since there were some boats in the area. After a short sail we decided to have a better look at the humpback and as we got closer we could see it very well and super close to our boat! We accompanied the whale until it was time to go back to the harbour. But before we decided to dock in Reykjavik we still had some time to pass by Akurey and see some lovely puffins close to the island!
