Whale Diary

10:00 - We headed out with nice warm weather. We had to sail for a bit, but then we found our first cetacean. 5 white-beaked dolphins. They were travelling, so we just stayed for a little while with them. Then we made our way further into the bay. We then found the first of 2 Humpback Whales. It wasn't surfacing a lot, so we stayed for a while and watched it a few times. Then we decided to have a look around. And there you go, we found another Humpback Whale. This one surfaced quite often, but was travelling very fast. All of a sudden it came up very close to our boat and dove underneath it. Then it came up somewhere else and as a nice good-bye "present" for us, it showed us it's beautiful fluke. :)

14:00 - Our afternoon started with calm seas as we sailed out in the same direction as the morning! After around half an hour we saw a blow! - a humpback whale was close by! We enjoyed it's company for a bit while surfacing regularly and showing of the fluke multiple times! Eventually we heard that there was another whale in the bay and so we decided to head out and have a look! As we got there the whale was moving slowly and it came very close to our boat! Very exciting! As time went on we decided our time to go home had arrived and we sailed back to the harbour but not without a quick stop at Akurey to have one last look at the puffins!
