Whale Diary

10:00 - We went out with warm weather and nice sea conditions. We had to head out quite far, but therefore we found a very nice Humpback Whale, which was surfacing a lot and showing us it's beautiful fluke. After admiring it, we had to head back to the harbor, but we stopped at Engey, to see the cute little puffins as well. :)

14:00 - Before going out in the bay, we spotted by Engey island, where we saw many Atlantic puffins next to their burrows and on the surface. Then, we sailed out to the same area where we saw the whales in the morning, trying our luck there first. We spotted a humpback whale, that was going for deep dives and not spending too long under the surface. We then headed towards Akranes and we found another humpback there, but we smelled it before we saw it! After taking a deep breath of this "great" smell, we noticed that it was not alone: a lone white-beaked dolphin was swimming side by side with the whale, very calmly. The humpback was beautiful, surfacing several times in our front. We realized we were running out of time and started heading back to Reykjavík, after spending a great time with the whales.
