10:00 - Our day started with beautiful skies and perfect sea conditions we sailed out to Faxaflói in the search for adventure. As we were sailing for about half an hour we spotted some slpashes further out, as we approached we could see a pod of white beaked dolphins. The pod had about 10 dolphins swimming together resurfacing super close to the boat. Then we were surprised by multiple high jumps of 2 individuals! After a while we decided to continue exploring the bay as about 15 minutes later we spotted 2 blows. Humpback whales! They were swimming slowly and resurfacing together close to the boat and we could see very clearly under the water. They came super close to the back of the boat! Eventually we decided to continue our trip and start our returne journey to the harbour, but we were once more surprised by another Humpback Whale wich we watched fluke for two times before deciding to start our return journey.

14:00 - We set off again by going to one of the puffin islands to see lots of these cute little birds flying around. We got to see some with fish in their mouths. Then we headed out into the further parts of the bay to look for cetaceans. We had to head a little bit further around this time as the whales had moved a bit. But then we found the first of 3 humpback whales during the trip. This first one was coming up a lot with very high fluke dives which was cool. Then after a few sightings of this whale we carried on as other boats came towards it. We then got to the second which was an individual named Hooker. Earlier in the day the first whale and Hooker had been very close together but now had spread out a lot. Hooker put on a really good show for us, breaching 6 times in a row before pec slapping for about 15 minutes! This was the highlight of the day, it was amazing. Whilst with Hooker we also saw a 3rd humpback surfacing quite a few times and going for fluke dives. We then headed back to the harbour in the sun after a great tour.

16:00 - The afternoon looked promising as we sailed out to the bay. We headed to the same area as we previously spotted the humpbacks. After 40 min we noticed some boats in the horizon an then we finally saw it! a blow! We sailed carefullly scaning the area for wildlife. Then we finally saw it, a Humpback Whale! It resurfaced a couple of times and then went for a deep dive showing of it's fluke! We recognised the whale, as it has a very white fluke, it was the same indivdual that we spotted during the previous tours! The whale was traveling quite fast, resurfacing 3 times at the time and then going for a fluke dive. Eventually we decided to search in diferent locations and not long after we spotted a diferent blow! As we got closer the whale showed some interest in us and abroached us very close to our bow. The whale was probably feeding and changed directions frequently but stayed always around us so we could enjoy the show. After a few minutes unfortunatly we had to return to the harbour, but we said goodbye with a smile on our faces!

20:00 - What a spectacular evening to be out in the Bay. The sun was out and beginning to set, conditions were a little choppy on the way out but nothing too dramatic with a light breeze. As we ventured out heading west towards the setting sun, we started seeing lots of feeding birds indicating that perhaps there was some good food under the water. Sure enough we were treated with some excellent views of minke whales, probably two or three individuals in the area. We decided to press on and after driving for a while, finally spotted some larger blows as well as some smaller ones of dolphins. We found two humpback whales doing regular dives, giving us fantastic views of their unique flukes. The views were spectacular with a double rainbow over the majestic Icelandic mountains and we tried hard to get the perfect humpback rainbow photo combination, but the humpback wasn't briefed on our plan and headed in the wrong direction. Next we saw white beaked dolphins jumping in the distance, and some individuals closer to our boats. We had to start heading back to the harbour but were spoiled finding another two humpbacks on the way back in and seeing some more wonderful fluke action. Finally we visited the Atlantic puffins at Engey in the most incredible evening light. Thanks to the high tide we were able to get very close to the island, and see these mighty little birds at rest outside the burrows.
