10:00 - For Icelandic standards this was a nice summer morning. Calm winds but strong swells made it a bumpy ride, and we were loving it! We started strong with a minke whale not even 500m outside the harbour. This animal surfaced quite a bit and even came very close to the boat. After this exciting start we headed farther out in the bay and were lucky enough to spot the very last of the Atlantic puffins! Then we heard rumors about a blow in the distance and when we arrived in the area, a humpback whale surfaced close to the boat! This whale went for long dives, but we got some good looks, especially when it did a peduncle throw! After a beautiful fluke dive we said goodbye to this whale and headed back home, only stopping for 4 cute grey seals chilling on the rocks around Akurey island. The perfect ending to a great morning at sea!

13:00 - The swell had picked up a bit so we were in for a true North Atlantic ocean experience. That means an adventurous ride and the ocean doing its best to come in the boat. Close to Akurey island we spotted a head bopping on the surface. A grey seal making its appearance, looking right at us! We went for a big loop around the bay, jumping over the waves and enjoying the beautiful sea birds of Iceland. After stopping for a small blow, but no animal, we decided to try our luck elsewhere. A bigger blow of a humpback whale appeared! As we were waiting for this animal to come up again, two Atlantic puffins were sitting on the surface, getting some rest before their journey out to open seas. We enjoyed their company and then the whale came back up! This animal was quite close to the boat and treaded us to a beautiful fluke dive before we said goodbye and headed back home.

19:00 - We headed out into the waves, and it wasn’t long after leaving the harbour before we spotted our first whale — a minke whale. We only saw it twice, but the second sighting was incredibly close, making it a thrilling start to the trip. After a long ride out to sea, we were suddenly surprised by a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins. They appeared almost out of nowhere, but we didn’t stay with them for long. In the distance, we spotted a huge blow — a sure sign that something much bigger was nearby. A humpback whale! We headed towards it and waited… and waited. It was a very long wait, but it was absolutely worth it. Eventually, two humpback whales surfaced side by side. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, dolphins were everywhere around them! The dolphins were swimming all over the whales, and the humpbacks seemed less than impressed. They started rolling and twisting in the water, seemingly trying to get the persistent dolphins off them. It was an incredible sight — two enormous humpbacks surrounded by playful, energetic dolphins. After such a long wait, seeing them interact like that made the whole journey completely worthwhile.
