Whale Diary

09:00 - We set out in true Icelandic fashion: horizontal rain and overcast skies. Nonetheless, we were exited to go out! After 30min of sailing, we spotted a minke whale! This elusive whale disappeared as quickly as it came and we decided to continue our way. There were lots of beautiful seabirds around, indicating lots of food, but no cetaceans. We traveled further south and suddenly, splashes and dorsal fins appeared in the waves! This was a pod of 7 white-beaked dolphins, cruising in the waves. The adults in this pod were very calm, but the juveniles were jumping and showing off their tricks! One of them was jumping over and over again, not even 2 meters from the boat! They checked out the boat and we could see their amazing coloration trough the surface. After this incredible encounter, they decided it was enough and vanished in the waves. We headed back to the harbour and enjoyed the rollercoaster like ride. What an adventurous morning at sea!
