10:00 – This morning we started our sail out under the sun, icelandic summer definetely started. We made a short stop to see the puffins flying or floating around Akurey. After 10 minutes we started to head off in the open sea and found a humpback whale. This individual was quite elusive and moving fast away from the zodiac so we left after 2 breathing sequences to respect the animal and our code of conduct. We headed toward a second animal that we saw for a few moments, its large back and dorsal fin and tail fin as it dove. During this sighting we also got a glimpse of about 3 harbour porpoises. As we continued moving around the area we got lucky enough to spot a lot of different blows on the horizon and get a nice look of about 5 to 6 other individual humpback whales before it was time to head back. All in all we saw so many that we lost count, really an incredible trip out in the bay.

14:00 – It was sunny the whole afternoon meanwhile we were looking for whales in Faxafloi bay. We stopped at the puffins first to watch thousands of those birds on the island. Some were jumping between rocks. We continued further out and went quite far out before finding a first humpback whale. The large animal was staying long under the surface and only surfacing quickly but we still manage to see a beautfiul fluke dive. After a while we decided to look for another individual and found a humpback that was resting. The whale was staying close to the surface, moving slowly in the same direction. We could see the white pectoral fins through the water, the blow and the back of the cetacean. It was very peaceful. When we got out of time we came back to the harbour.
