10:00 - What a glorious day to be alive and out in Faxafloi Bay. Beautiful blue skies, a light breeze and calm seas giving perfect spotting conditions. We came across several harbour porpoises as we headed out giving some lovely views. We started seeing minke whales around which were a little tricky to find but then we found some Atlantic white beaked dolphins and stayed with them for a few minutes until they headed away. Determined to spot more minke whales we kept heading out and were rewarded with some excellent views of different individuals. We decided to head to the north to see if we could find anything else and found lots of amazing Atlantic gannets diving into the water. As always time was starting to run out but when we headed back in we had one more amazing view of a minke nice and close.

12:00 - We still had very nice conditions this afternoon and were happy to get back onto the water in the sunshine. We found a pod of 5-6 white-beaked dolphins quite close to Reykjavik, and we could stay with them for some nice times. They were calmly surfacing and suddenly became interested in us; approaching the boat and riding our bow. It was wonderful to see the dolphins come up from side to side, but when they started traveling in the opposite direction of us we left them alone and continued further into the bay. We encountered a few more dolphins, but also three minke whales! The minke whales were diving for a long time so we could often only see them during one surfacing sequence, but we did get some close-up encounters with these beautiful whales. We searched the area some more before heading back to Reykjavik, but it seemed like all the animals were diving longer and so we went straight to the harbour.

16:00 - The sea became a little bit choppier during the afternoon, but it was still a wonderful day with bright sunshine and incredible visibility. We found a pod of probably approximately 15 white-beaked dolphins that started swimming around our boat and even jumping a little bit. We continued to a flock of seabirds and found a minke whale on the way. The minke whale came up a few times, but we lost sight of it after a long and deep dive so we continued. When we reached the flock of birds we found a few more white-beaked dolphins, but in the distance we could see even more bird activity so we continued our journey. We had reached the fishing hotspots with lots of northern gannets plungediving, shearwaters soaring over the water and a couple of minke whales swimming around. We got to see the two minke whales surface almost simultaneously before it was our time to head back to the harbour, with the memories of some beautiful sightings in mind.
