Whale Diary

10:00 - This morning we had beautiful snowy mountains, no wind and blue skies. Amazing conditions to go whale watching! We set sail into Faxafloi - we sailed around trying to spot blows or splashes and then spotted a mini blow from a white beaked dolphin, it was tricky to tell if it was a tiny pod or just one individual. We enjoyed this dolphin for a bit and it even jumped very close to us! Then it seemed like more appeared and we were seeing small blows and splashes all around. After some time, we decided to continue our adventure and sailed on. We quickly spotted some bigger blows on the horizon. This was not one, not two, not three but four humpback whales!! We were very blessed and got quite a good close look at them. One of the quartet was Davy Jones II - one of our regulars and of course favourites. We stayed for a while, having them all to ourselves and enjoying listening to the calm ocean and whales before heading back to harbour.

13:00 - This afternoon the wind had picked up a smidge but the ocean still had nice conditions and the sun was still out. We sailed out once more, once again exited to see what nature had in store for us. We stopped for a moment as we thought we spotted a small dolphin blow but did not spot our mystery friend again. We then continued and found our quartet of humpback whales! It was quite a sight to see as they often lined up perfectly. Some of them were a bit fluke shy but one of them would show its fluke in quite an artsy way! We stayed here for a bit until time eventually ran out and we headed back home.
