10:00 - The morning was cloudy and windy, but we still manage to go out in the bay. After the stop to see the puffins, our whale watching tour started. Didn't took too long until the first whale appeared, was a minke whale with a very strong smell and very close to the boat. Only appeared 2 times so was quite difficult to follow, the tour procceded and the search as well. Some minke whales were around the boat and a big blow was spotted in the distance. Such a big blow had to be something different than a minke whale and it was 1 humpback whale. This individual was doing very long dives so we could only see it a couple of times. After this humpback the other boats discovered another one and we went to check it, this humpback was showing a litle more at the surface and even show the beautiful fluke once at the end. The perfect way to finish the tour.

12:00 - It was windy in the harbour but actually not that choppy outside. The way out at least was quite easy. We first stopped in Akurey to watch thousands of puffin fly around, or chill on the grass and on the water. It was cloudy when we left but meanwhile we were looking for the whales, a bright sun came out. We stopped a couple of times when we crossed a minke whale that our captain spotted, but the animals were playing hard to see. We smelled their stinky breath a few times! We explored several areas until we finally spotted a large blow. We got closer and could see the tail of a humpback whale disappearing in the water. We patiently waited until the humpback surfaced again a bit further. We got closer and could see the fluke dive again. We stayed with this humpback that seemed very relaxed and for the last observation with it, it seemed to be resting, staying close to the surface without diving for a few minutes. It was very nice to be able to follow its shadow under the surface with the white pectoral fins clearly visible. When the animal decided to go for a fluke dive, we turned and came back to Reykjavik.

16:00 - On the way into the bay we had quite normal conditions for Icelandic weather, but halfway through the tour the wind picked up a lot and we found ourselves in the middle of a splashy adventure in Faxafloi. We came across a group of curious white-beaked dolphins that came to play with the boat for some time, but then we wanted to head back to Reykajvík before the wind would get stronger. On the way back we encountered yet another group of white-beaked dolphins that briefly jumped in the air, and in the same area we caught a glimpse of a minke whale, so despite the rocky conditions we had some nice views of the cetaceans in the bay.
