12:00 - The sea just outside the harbour was deceptively calm, but as soon as we passed the islands the waves grew bigger and we were bouncing! After 30min suddenly a fluke rose from the water, a humpback whale going for a deep-dive! We waited patiently and when this whale surfaced again, it seemed to go for an afternoon rest. This giant animal was hovering just below the surface, sometimes rising trough the waves to breath. It is amazing to spend time with this whale in such calm way! We left this whale on its nap and headed further out. A blow indicated a second humpback whale, but when we reached the area, it turned out to be three humpbacks together! One of them did not seems to enjoy the company of the others and split ways, but we were able to observe the other two side by side for a bit. Even a minke whale joined this party! They lifted their huge fluke high above the water and we took that as our que to leave. On the way back to port, we got a quick look at the smallest cetaceans in this bay: 4 harbour porpoises passing in front of our boat! A amazing ending to this amazing tour.
15:00 - The afternoon started with more clouds in the sky, but luckily the wind dropped bit giving us much better sea conditions for our tour. As we left the harbour, we soon spotted a minke whale close to coast. This calm minke surfaced a couple of times, giving us some lovely views before disappearing again. We then continued north into Faxaflói Bay, and some of our passengers spotted some harbor porpoises in our way. But suddenly a huge splash caught our attention. As we sailed to the area, we discovered three blows, three humpback whales travelling together! We were able to spend some time watching these impressive animals as they surfaced and appearing very close to our boat. At the beginning they were more calmer but later on they even showed their beautiful flukes! Further along the way, we encountered a small pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins, which added even more excitement to our afternoon, despite they weren't very curious. And as we made our way back, again we spotted another minke whale passing by the boat. In the end 4/ 4 most common species of the bay....it was a wonderful afternoon for our ocean lovers!!
