Whale Diary

09:00 - Today was one of those picture-perfect days on the water—clear skies, sunshine, and hardly any wind or swell. Nature was definitely showing off, and we were ready for it! 🌞🌊 Not long after we set sail, we hit the jackpot with a pod of 3 playful white-beaked dolphins! These guys were in the mood for fun, riding the bow like it was their personal racetrack. They zoomed around us, showing off their speed and agility, and everyone on board was absolutely loving it. 🐬🚤 After the dolphin joyride, we kept going and spotted a minke whale. This one wasn’t as camera-shy as some of its friends—it came up a few times, giving us some nice views before it decided to disappear back into the deep. A little mysterious, but that just added to the excitement! The grand finale? A humpback whale! It was taking shorter dives, so we got to hang out with it for quite a while. Watching it surface again and again, everyone on board was buzzing with excitement—it felt like we had front-row seats to a nature documentary! All in all, the day was full of sunshine, playful dolphins, and some quality whale time. Perfect ocean vibes! 🐋✨

10:00 - This morning was a little cold but we had very calm seas and not a lot of wind. We sailed out into the bay feeling optimistic! Not long after leaving, we found a small pod of 3 harbour porpoises however, they weren't very friendly and disappeared very quickly. We continued our search and spotted a humpback whale! This whale was doing pretty regular ~7 minute dives and was showing the fluke every time it went for a deep dive. It was beautiful to see! After watching this individual for a while, we moved on and found a small pod of 3 white-beaked dolphins. These dolphins were also not in a sociable mood and disappeared beneath the waves as well. Then we saw around 5/6 minke whales! They were spread out over a large area so that we saw minkes whichever way we looked! 2 of the minkes came up right next to our boat! We saw another humpback whale in the distance too and headed over to that area. It was taking a really long dive and unfortunately we had to head back to the harbour before it reappeared. Overall an excellent tour!

12:00 - The weather took a bit of a moody turn today—overcast skies and a bit more wind in the air, but that didn't dampen our spirits! 🌥️💨 We set sail with hopes high, and after a bit of searching, we hit the jackpot: a humpback whale! 🐋 This one was taking its sweet time, going on some pretty long dives, keeping us all on our toes. But when it finally surfaced, it decided to come up close, giving everyone an incredible view! Seeing a humpback that close never gets old, and the excitement on board was contagious. Even though it played a bit hard to get with those long dives, it still gave us a show that made the trip totally worth it. Everyone left with big smiles and some great whale tales to share! 🌊😊

15:00 - Today the wind was still going strong, and there was a bit of swell, but that didn’t stop us from heading out on another adventure! 🌬️🌊 We sailed for a while, scanning the horizon, and just when we thought we’d have to settle for the ocean breeze, we struck whale gold: a humpback whale! 🐋 This wasn’t just any humpback—it was full of energy and putting on a show. After a bit, we noticed something exciting... bubbles rising to the surface. And then, for everyone’s absolute thrill, the whale started bubble net feeding right near the boat! Talk about a front-row seat to nature’s finest! 🎥🌊 It was like being in a wildlife documentary, with everyone buzzing with excitement as the humpback worked its magic. Safe to say, this tour was one for the books, with everyone leaving feeling like they’d just witnessed something truly special!

16:00 - This afternoon we had very grey skies but still calm seas as we headed out into the bay. Not too long after leaving, we found 2 pods of harbour porpoises, each pod had around 3 individuals. Both of the pods were not very friendly however, and they very quickly disappeared after we first saw them. We moved onto a different area where some other species had been seen earlier. There, we found a minke whale that came quite close to the boat! We were able to see it fairly well but then it also disappeared. We sailed on to a new area and spotted a humpback whale! It was feeding and we were able to see it many times. It showed us its tail as well as its face a couple of times! A great ending to the tour!
