Whale Diary

10:00 - Today’s whale-watching adventure was an absolute treat! The sun was shining, the wind was just enough to keep things interesting, and the sea was nice and calm. We set out with high hopes, and boy, did the ocean deliver! First up, we spotted a humpback whale, not too far from the boat. It was shallow diving and feeding, giving us a great show as it came pretty close. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we had a brief encounter with a minke whale that surfaced a couple of times before moving on. But the day wasn’t over yet. We then found another humpback that was taking its time, doing longer dives. The anticipation on board was palpable as we waited for it to resurface each time. As we continued, we came across a pod of about 5 harbor porpoises. They were a bit on the shy side, but it was still great to catch a glimpse of them. And then, to top it all off, we spotted a pod of about 7 white-beaked dolphins interacting with two humpback whales! It was such a cool and unique moment to witness—definitely the highlight of the trip.

12:00 - Amazing whale watching this afternoon. Just a few minutes after leaving the marina we found the humpback whales! It was incredible, there were so many of them. At least 7 individuals. We had so many whales to spend time with, and they all gave an incredible show.

14:00 - What a spectacular afternoon on the water! The weather was even sunnier than this morning, with hardly any wind—a perfect day for whale watching. We set out with high spirits and didn’t have to wait long to spot our first humpback whale, not too far from Akranes. It was doing shallow dives and seemed to be feeding, surrounded by arctic terns also enjoying the feast. Watching them all interact was like seeing nature at its best. But the excitement didn’t stop there. We moved on and soon found ourselves amidst four more humpback whales, all pretty close to each other. It was an incredible sight, with these majestic creatures surfacing and diving around us. As if that wasn’t enough, we also spotted a minke whale. And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we witnessed it lunge feeding! Seeing a minke whale in action like that was an unforgettable moment. This trip was filled with breathtaking encounters and stunning weather—a day on the water we won’t soon forget!

16:00 - The last tour was a perfect finish to a perfect day. In the same area were we had found whales all day, we found them again. Around 7 humpback whales. Some were very active, doing repetitive fluke dives that looked gorgeous in the golden sun of the early evening. We saw also at least 3 minke whales cruising at speed, and the passengers could see in real life the differences between the species. We finished the tour with a quick visit to the remaining puffins at Engey, and we headed back.
