Whale Diary

09:00 - Incredible start of the day! The weather was amazing as we sailed out of the harbour, with clear skies and low winds. We were headed towards the place where we saw the cetaceans yesterday, but today we found them a lot closer! Just a few miles out, we found in the same area, 3 humpback whales, 5 minke whales, and a few white beaked dolphins, around 5. Two of the humpbacks were old friends: Pep and Davy Jones. These two are always a pleasure to find: they were super curious and active, and everybody on board was delighted.

10:00 - We went out with beautiful sunshine and calm seas. There was not a single cloud on the sky. We didn't have to sail for long, when we first saw a Minke Whale's back popping out of the water. So we stopped to have a look at it. It surfaced a few times and then disappeared into the blue. We also kept going then and shortly after saw a blow not far from us. It was a Humpback Whale! We enjoyed the time we had with it, it was resting and coming up regularly to take a breath. We changed our position, because at one point we were looking into the sun glare and as soon as we were in our new position there was a second Humpback !! So we watched these 2 beauties for a while and then decided, to leave them alone. On our way to find some more cetaceans we found another big blow. So we stopped by and met an old friend. It was "Davy Jones II" he was very relaxed, surfacing a few times, also showing us his beautiful fluke ! After this encounter we had to head back, but on our way back we saw at least 3 more Minke Whales. What a great tour!

13:00 - We headed towards we were in the morning, seeing as we had had amazing sightings. But after a while searching, we discovered they were not there! So we spoke with other boats and we got word that they had traveled a bit northwards. So we headed that way and we found Pep and her friend again! So 2 humpback whales. They were calmer and more relaxed than in the morning, but it was really nice, as they came really close, gifting us fluke dives just next to the boat.
