Whale Diary

10:00 - It was an incredible tour, the first one of the day. Not long after departure we had the first group of white beaked dolphins, around 10 of them. They were quite active, bow roding and giving quite the show. As we were enjoying their company we found 2 humpback whales in succession. They were in the same broad area, swimming in circles, feeding. One of them showed its tail repeteadly, to the delight of everyone on board. On the way back we found some more dolphins, around 7, bringing the total count to 17. It was a very successful tour.

12:00 -  The skies were cloudy but the seas were incredibly calm as we set off today. We quickly found ourselves a Humpback Whale, which we could approach very easily and enjoy it's magnificent fluke dives.After spending some time with this one, we found ourselves a very curious pod of white-beaked dolphins, which approached the boat very closely. Eventually we said goodbye to these guys as well, and we headed onwards in our search of wildlife. Quickly after, we found ourselves a second humpback! It was very active, moving all over the place and fluke-diving many times! Content with today's sightings, it was time to head back into port.

14:00 -  This tour was also incredible!! First we started off by visiting the puffins at Akurey, and everyone learnt a lot about these incredible little birds. Then we continued into the bay, and after about 10 minutes we found the first group of white beaked dolphins, around 10. They were a bit shy so we continued our search, and shortly after we found 3 humpback whales! They spent a lot of time on the surface, and showed their tail a lot, which delighted everyone and gave perfect photos. In the middle of the action another group of around 10 dolphins showed up for repeated swims under the boat, and we also spotted 2 minke whales swimming in the area. Excellent tour.

16:00 - We set off with a slight drizzle but the skies already started to clear and soon the sun was shining upon us. After a shprt while, we found ourselves a Humpback Whale, which we saw fluke dive a couple times. We quickly moved on though as there were some white-beaked dolphins neary as well. We got a few nice good looks at them before they dissapeared, but shortly after we found ourselves a second pod! They were quite calm in the beginning, but they quickly picked up the pace and started bowriding and jumping incredibly close to the boat! After having an amazing time with these individuals, we found ourselves the humpback again and spend time with this one, seeing it surface and fluke dive very close to the boat! We stayed with this one until time ran out and we needed to head back to port again, with a rainbow appearing in out wake.

20:00 - We went out with perfect conditions! The sea was calm, the sun was shining, we even saw 2 rainbows and 1 stratosphere cloud! But the best part is yet to come. We were encountering 4 Humpback Whales !! First we found 2 of them a little bit apart from eachother. We watched them surfacing and fluking a lot of times, when we saw 6 White Beaked Dolphins jumping a little bit further away. So we decided to leave the Humpbacks to themselves and go check the dolphins out. After we arrived there, they started bowriding in our wave and jumping next to the boat. It didn't take long then the Humpbacks were back in close proximity. So we watched both species interact a little. Unfortunately it was time to head back to harbor, when we heard on the radio, that there were 2 other Humpbacks close by. So we decided to extend a little bit and check them out as well. We stayed with them also for a while, but then really had to leave. It was a awesome tour !
