09:00 - It was quite windy this morning with easterlies, we wanted to try at least. We first stopped by Akurey to visit the puffins and hundreds were there sitting on the water and some on the island itself. Such cute and also clumsy little birds. Then off we went to check on the whales. It was a comfortable ride offshore but as soon as we turned the boat into the wind to follow a minke whale we started to get splashes coming over the pontoons. We saw only the blow and some diving splashes of the minke whale, we searched the area from about 20 minutes in the hope of seeing more but the wind was picking up and so the decision was made to head back closer to land in calmer waters. We searched an area between the islands of Viðey and Engey where a minke and humpback was seen yesterday evening. It was incredible to see at least 100 northern gannets plunging into the waters close and near the island. We were feeling so optimistic. We saw one dorsal fin once of a minke whale but nothing else other than the impressive diving gannets. It was an amazing tour with the fun ride and amazing birdlife but as no whales were seen well we gave our passengers complimentary tickets for free ride of the classic whale watching tour with Elding.
