Species seen today: Minke whales, white beaked dolphins

Birds seen today: Storm petrel, Northern fulmar, Atlantic puffin, Arctic tern, common guillemot

10:00 - Today the sea was quite flat as we started the tour, and got a bit wavy as we sailed through the bay. Our first encounter was with some minke whales, we got to see quite a few around us, at least 5 to 10. We navigated through the area for a while, navigated from minke whales to other to get a glimpse of some of the dorsal fins and black body of the minke whales. We then in the area noticed some white beaked dolphins ! there was 2 to 3 around, came bow riding and offered us some nice views on them. We then continued our way, observing the northern gannet plunge diving, and storm petrels tip toeing on the waves and eventually got back toward the harbour.

12:00 - Conditions calmed down a little bit during this tour. We went first for the last puffins around Engey, then we sailed out to find some whales. It started very well with a large pod of 10-15 white-beaked dolphins in a great mood, coming under the boats, bow riding, jumping on the side. There was several juveniles and apparently they were planning to make more of them, a few of the adults were mating! By two swimming facing each other.. After a while we continued and left them having there fun and went to explore other areas. We spotted a 3-4 minke whales in areas with many northern gannet diving. Its always amazing to see how they catch there fish. We crossed another pod of 4-5 white-beaked dolphins towards the end of the tour and came back to the harbour.

16:00 - We started our sail with a bit of waves as we went out toward the previous areas where we had seen wildlife today. When we got to this area we saw plenty of minke whales. We started to follow 2 that we had some nice views on, then we headed a bit further out and saw at least 5 other ones going around the area. And at least 2 of them we got to see from quite close ! We then continued toward an area where we had a lot of sea birds diving for food and saw 2 other minke whales. We then moved a tiny bit south and saw a pod of 3 white beaked dolphins ! The dolphins were jumping around the boat, and well, also mating (baby dolphins coming soon ...). It was very cool to see them jump around for some time ! After this nice time with dolphins, we started to make our way toward the harbour, saw a minke from really close, and came back to Reykjavik. A lovely trip.
