10:00 - The cold air greeted us as we ventured out into our Faxaflói bay. The ocean had a bit of swell, but the sun was shining! We searched for a while as we happened upon a flock of birds sitting on the ocean surface, stopping to observe for any sign of whales. Sadly, there were none so we continued on our journey. Then, we spotted another large flock of birds going crazy at the surface. This time, we spotted a lone minke whale underneath the birds, who lunge fed behind the waves before disappearing. As we headed south, we spotted small blows up ahead, and found another minke whale! This one was quite elusive, and we only got a few looks at it before it was gone. At this point, time was running out, and we were forced to head back to the harbour. As the minke whales were quick and shy, we offered our passengers complementary tickets to come back for free on the classic whale watching tour. Despite the lack of whales today, the birds were very active, and we spotted many different species such as juvenile razorbills, Northern fulmars, Northern gannets, and guillemots!
