Species seen today: Minke whale, Humpback whale, White-beaked dolphins

Today we went out on 2 boats. On one boat first cetacean we spotted was a minke whale. It wasn't diving long time (4 minutes) but was surfacing just twice, so not giving much time to have a good look or photos. 2nd minke we found was surfacing for 4 breaths but fast travelling so we continued our search in hope we would find animals easier to watch. Within few minutes we found two flocks of birds and 2 minkes feeding under them - one juvenile and one adult. Soon we spotted another, adult, minke near as well! These minkes were lunge feeding just next to us! We turned off our engines and enjoyed hearing their breaths and splashes from chasing their prey. It was beautiful to see these streamlined elegant bodies gliding above the surface. By the end of the tour, we went to the area where dolphins were spotted, but haven't seen them. However, we were still very impressed and happy with all that minkes seen in feeding action!
Our second boat also found many birds and lots of minkes feeding and was lucky enough to see a small pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins playing around the boat.

On our midday tour, after riding for awhile, we found a big flock of many bird species (guillemots, razorbills, sheerwaters, puffins, gannets, gulls) and 3 minkes under the surface. It was amazing sighting - watching minkes lunge feeding just in front of us! There were splashes, even the part of the tail went above the surface, exciting birds surfacing with the fishes in their beaks and chasing each other...After awhile, everything calmed down, seems the minkes started leaving the area, so we left as well. We headed to the area where from the big boat they spotted a humpback whale. When we arrived, we saw many boats around it. The animal displayed few high tail slaps, after which most of the boats left. The whale became relaxed and looked like it's sleeping - long breaths, just under surface, not showing much of its body and moving short distances. We left this humpy sleeping and headed back to the harbour with big smiles on our faces. What a great day to be at the ocean!
