09:00 - This morning brought us clear skies and lots of sun, but it was still cold so we geared up with as many layers as possible before we set out into Faxafloi bay! We enjoyed bouncing on the waves until eventually spotting two blows very far away. On the way over, a humpback whale suddenly lifted a fluke out of the water! We stayed with this surprise whale for a bit, before saying goodbye after another beautiful fluke dive close to the boat. As we, yet again were trying to travel to the area with the blows, a sneaky minke whale appeared! It was a quick encounter, up and under so we didn´t linger. Finally we reached the area and spotted two humpback whales next to each other! These were huge animals, with powerful blows and taking short dives, lifting their flukes out of the water each time. We spend some time, but decided to continue so we turned around and immediately spotted two more humpback whales! These whales were very calm, resting just below the surface. They disappeared for a bit and then surfaced right next to the boat! It is incredibly special to see this gentle giants so close and it´s not every day two 16m animals sneak up on you. This was an amazing encounter and between the sun and the whales, there is no better way of starting the day!
