Species seen today: Minke whale, white-beaked dolphin

Birds seen today: Northern gannet, northern fulmar, black-legged kittiwake, eider duck, sooty shearwater, herring gull, black-backed gull.

10:00 - This morning the tour started slowly, the animals were more difficult to spot so we had to wait more in the areas to try to have a good look of them. Fortunately the minke whales were lunge feeding sometimes showing more of the body than normal. After spotting this animals we saw a white body at the surface of the water in the distance so we went to check it out. This body was a body of a minke whale but sadly was dead. This animal most likely died recently due to the body had no signs of decomposition. In a similar area we saw 5 white-beaked dolphins feeding but they were hard to spot, moving a lot, very likely feeding. Our time was ending so we had to start to return to the harbour after seeing more than 5 whales during this tour.

12:00 -  We went directly to the same spot as this morning since the activity was all there. The birds were plunge diving to get the fish, the minke whales were lunge feeding to eat the fish and we were watching all the action. After a bumpy ride we finally arrived to the spot and the party was all still there, everyone was trying to have their deserved lunch. This time the minkes arrived closer to our boat so the sightings were better. The clues to find the humpbacks were all there as well but unfortunately they didn't appeared on the surface so after enjoying the company of the minke whales we had to start to head back to the harbour finishing the tour.

14:00 - Back on the sea we went to similar areas going towards the south. We crossed a pod of 3-4 harbour porpoises that quickly disappeared. We kept going until we reached a rich area with a lot of birds, gannets plunge-diving and northern fulmar gliding smoothly in the winds picking up. We then saw a pod of 4-6 white-beaked dolphins feeding, as well as 6 different minke whales. We also saw a dead minke whale floating like this morning. The cause of the death remain unknown. We kept watching the ones that were feeding freely in those wild areas of iceland before heading back to the harbour.
