Whale Diary

10:00 - Brilliant tour to start the day. As soon as we left the marina, in great weather, we saw the first minke whales and that's how we knew it was going to be a great tour. In total we saw 7 individuals. Farther away, then, we saw 2 humpback whales. We stayed with them for some time, and on the way back we saw harbour porpoises, around 6 of them.

13:00 - Second tour of the day, and also amazing! We were getting a bit worried when we got to the area where we had seen humpback earlier and we could not find any, but then, direction South, quite some distance away, we spotted blows! We went that way as fast as we could, and on arrival, we found 3 humpback whales! One of them was Davy Jones. We were so pleased to see them, it was such a nice surprise and a great find. We spent the rest of the time there and then we headed back. We also saw plenty of minke whales, maybe 7, and harbour porpoises, maybe 10.

15:00 - A great success!! We headed straight to where we had seen Davy Jones and friends earlier, and a bit closer this time, we found them again. They were still traveling in the same direction, and very relaxed. They gave us a fluke or two, and we left them alone, as we could see other blows in the distance. We got there and we found 2 more individuals, so, 5 total humpback whales. These two were having a bit of an argument by the looks of it, rolling and slapping all the time. They gave quite the show. White beaked dolphins eventually joined the action, and it was amazing. It was around 10 of them. Also, minke whales, plenty, maybe 7, and harbour porpoises, possibly 10. Amazing tour!
