14:00 - We were once again blessed with beautiful, sunny weather as we headed out into the bay this afternoon. After about 15 minutes of sailing, a small pod of 3 harbour porpoises swam straight toward our boat, surfacing twice before diving again. We stopped to see where they might reappear, but true to their shy reputation, they quickly swam away. We carried on in hopes of more encounters, and soon a minke whale surfaced right beside us. We stopped and watched as it came up a few more times, showing its pointy snout when breaking the water, before it too decided to move on. Not long after, another minke whale appeared. We waited to see if it would resurface, but this individual seemed just as shy, so we continued our journey. Eventually, we reached a large feeding area where Northern Gannets were plunge-diving everywhere - a clear sign of abundant fish in the water. It wasn’t just the seabirds feasting: 2 humpback whales appeared and treated us to several dives, showing their beautiful big flukes. Then, two more humpbacks and two additional minke whales surfaced in the distance. We stayed in this lively area for quite some time, marveling at the abundance of life around us. Just before we left, the pair of humpbacks surfaced one last time right beside the boat - a breathtaking farewell. We returned to the harbour filled with joy from all these close encounters. What a truly unforgettable afternoon!
