Whale Diary

09:00 - This morning we sailed out ready for our adventure, we thought it was going to be quite splashy however in the end it was better than expected! Ready in our cosy overalls we set off. We stopped quite quickly after our captain spotted a minke whale but it seemed to be an elusive one and it wasn't seen again. We continued and then spotted a bigger blow further away. We found 2 humpback whales! One of them was Neila, one of our favourites. She seemed to be travelling with a younger individual based on the size of them. We stayed with them for a bit and they both got quite close to the boat! While we were enjoying Neila plus friend, we also spotted another minke in the distance a few times! Eventually we made a move as to not overstay our welcome. We continued on hearing rumours of more humpback whales though only saw those for a brief moment. We continued on and then spotted 2 pods of white beaked dolphins! One pod was quite small consisting of 2-3 individuals, while the other pod was made up of 5-6. The bigger pod seemed to be the more friendly one as the smaller pod quickly vanished as well. We sailed alongside the bigger pod for a bit but when time ran out we went back to harbour.
