Whale Diary

10:00 - Our morning started with cloudy skies and high hopes! We headed first to Engey, one of the puffins islands just outside of Reykjavik! Today we were pretty lucky since the islands were full of puffins with hundreds flying around- very cool! Then we started sailing in the direction of the Whale Fjord, where we had spotted some cetaceans yesterday. After looking around for a bit, we decided to head further out to the middle of the bay. As the waves were increasing, we decided to go a bit south, where the conditions seemed better. We continued looking for whales and dolphins, but unfortunately, they seemed to have vanished today. We then started heading back to the harbour, enjoying the view as the sun decided to show itself! As we got to land, we gave out complimentary tickets to all our passengers who would like to return on another day.

14:00 - We set off into the big waves again this afternoon. At first we headed in a northerly direction before turning towards the centre of the bay where historically we have had very good luck. As we got closer the number of seabirds increased astronomically. There was clearly a lot of food as we saw lots of cetaceans too! There was a pair of humpbacks swimming together, another on it´s own a bit further away along with 8 white beaked dolphins! The dolphins were swimming all over the humpbacks so we even got a little flick of the fluke from one of the humpbacks flukes as well. Overall it was an amazing sighting with lots of wildlife around. On our way back we also stopped at Akurey to see the puffins too!
