12:00 - During the second tour of the day, the wind started to pick up a little. However, conditions were still safe enough, so we headed back out to sea. Sailing North, we encountered many whitecaps on the water, which made our search for our beloved cetaceans a bit more challenging, as it was harder to spot them at the surface. When we reached Akranes, we found a very active flock of seabirds and we decided to stop in the area. Then, suddenly, a mile away, a huge splash appeared out of nowhere. It was a humpback whale slapping its tail on the surface of the water. The whale repeatedly displayed its tail, sending enormous amounts of water into the air. After spending some time with this whale, we received a call from another boat. They had spotted a different individual farther South. We headed to the area and waited for another surfacing, but unfortunately nothing appeared. So, we decided to continue west and, once again, another huge splash caught our attention in the distance. This time, it was another whale breaching. On several occasions, we were able to see this gentle giant launch almost its entire body out of the water. What an incredible two sightings! Two humpback whales! On our way back to the harbor, we stopped by the puffin colony on Akurey to admire the thousands of cute and beautiful puffins that live there. With sunshine above us and big smiles on our faces, we returned to the harbor with unforgettable memories of an amazing day at sea.
