Whale Diary

10:00 - The day started under sunny skies and culm seas. We quickly got dressed and went straight to say hello to our little cute friend the puffins. Akurey island had thousands of them with there beaks full of small fish. After this exiting stop we set course towards the open waters. Didn't took long until we spotted few blows at the horizon. Not one but 4 humpback whales. We were left speechless watching its spectacular luge feeding behavior. An amazing show! At the same aria were at least 3 minke whales that popped up as well. We stayed with these amazing animals for quite a while and unfortunately started our way to Reykjavik port.

12:00 - We sailed out into sunny but slightly choppy seas with the wind in our backs. We first met a pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins, with 2 of them curiously checking us out as they went back and forth under our boat. We had a great time with these excited dolphins until they finally got distracted so as they moved onwards, so did we. We then ended up in an area with 4 humpback whales, 2 of them we saw nice and close, the others were busy in the distance feeding. The 2 close ones did put up an amazing show for us though, as they were bubble-netting, often so distracted in their feeding that they came just up to just a few meters from our boat! On of them was in a particularly excited mood as between feeding, he rolled on his side and his back slapping his big pectoral fins on the water. We awed at the spectacle for the longest time, until time finally ran out we had to move back to Reykjavik, but not before we stopped by one of the puffin islands to check out our feathery little friends!
